Hell Strip & Boulevard Gardens
Turn the often-overlooked space between the sidewalk and street into a beautiful planting area with personality.
Garden Design + Installation
Thoughtfully designed residential gardens for people who want something more than a patch of grass.
6 Garden Projects for Spring 2027
PHK Gardens is accepting interest for the first 6 residential garden projects of our Spring 2027 season.

That strip of grass between the sidewalk and street.
That empty corner of the front yard.
That tired garden bed that never quite came together.
These spaces don't have to stay ordinary.
PHK Gardens designs and installs beautiful, practical gardens that make better use of the spaces around your home.
We combine thoughtful garden design with plants suited to the site, creating gardens that feel intentional, natural, and connected to the landscape around them.

Spring 2027
For our first season, PHK Gardens is taking on 6 residential garden projects.
We're starting small so we can give every garden the attention it deserves—from the initial site evaluation and design through planting and installation.
The first 6 projects will help establish the foundation of PHK Gardens and create the portfolio of gardens we'll be building for years to come.
Every one of the first 6 gardens also includes 90 days of Joan, free.

What we design
Every property is different. Instead of starting with a standard planting package, we design around the actual space, its conditions, and the way you want to use it.
Turn the often-overlooked space between the sidewalk and street into a beautiful planting area with personality.
Replace uninspiring lawn or tired planting beds with a thoughtfully designed garden that becomes part of your home's character.
Create habitat and seasonal interest with plants that support pollinators and work naturally within the local landscape.
You don't need a huge yard to have a great garden. We specialize in making small and awkward spaces work.
Have a garden that has gotten out of control—or simply doesn't work anymore? We can rethink the layout, plant selection, and overall design.
Have an unusual space or a different idea? Tell us about it. We'll determine whether it's a good fit for PHK Gardens.
More than just planting
We don't simply show up with a truck full of plants and put them in the ground.
Before installation, we consider the entire space and how the garden will develop over time.
The result is a garden designed to look good now and years from now.
The PHK Gardens process
01
Submit a few photos and some basic information about the area you'd like to transform. We'll review the space and determine whether it's a good fit for the Spring 2027 program.
02
For selected projects, we'll visit the property to evaluate the space, discuss your goals, and look at the growing conditions. We'll talk about what you like, what you don't, and what you envision for the finished garden.
03
We'll develop a planting plan specifically for your space. The design will consider plant selection, placement, scale, seasonal interest, and the conditions of the site.
04
We'll review the proposed garden with you and make any necessary adjustments before moving forward.
05
When planting season arrives, we'll bring the design to life. We'll prepare the site, install the plants, and create the finished garden.
06
The garden isn't finished when we leave. It's just beginning. Plants change, fill in, flower, and mature. A well-designed garden becomes more interesting with time.
Why PHK Gardens
PHK Gardens grew naturally out of PHK Ceramics, a Minnesota-based business centered around plants, pottery, and the things that make growing them more enjoyable.
That connection matters.
We don't look at a garden as simply a collection of plants.
We look at the entire space—plants, containers, materials, texture, structure, and the way everything works together.
The goal isn't to make your yard look like everyone else's.
It's to create a garden that feels like it belongs there.
We aren't trying to be the biggest landscaping company.
We're interested in creating small, thoughtful gardens that make a noticeable difference.
01
Plants chosen for the actual conditions of the site.
02
A plan first, plants second.
03
We aren't interested in cookie-cutter planting beds.
04
Color, texture, height, bloom time, and structure all matter.
05
A garden should become better as it grows.
A little extra for your garden
Your garden doesn't end when we leave.
Every one of the first 6 PHK Gardens installations for Spring 2027 will include 90 days of Joan, our garden companion app, at no additional cost.
Joan helps you keep track of the plants in your garden, understand what they need, stay on top of seasonal tasks, and document how your garden grows.
When we create your garden, we'll help you get your new plants organized in Joan so you have a digital record of the garden we designed together.
Instead of leaving you with a planting list that ends up in a drawer, your garden can live with you throughout the growing season.
Joan is still being built alongside PHK Gardens. Here's what it's being designed to do for your garden:
Joan is being built to keep your garden organized so you know exactly what you've planted.
Joan is being built to map your plants and keep track of where everything belongs.
Joan is being built to help you keep up with watering, maintenance, and seasonal care.
Joan is being built to show what needs attention as the growing season changes.
Joan is being built to document your garden and watch it change over time.
Joan is being built to use local weather information to help plan your garden care.
For our first 6 Spring 2027 garden installations, we're combining the physical garden with the tools to help you care for it long after installation day.
Garden Design + Installation
90 Days of Joan
A garden designed to grow with you
We're intentionally limiting our first season to 6 garden installations.
This allows us to focus on creating great gardens rather than taking on more projects than we can properly manage.
If you've been thinking about changing that awkward strip of lawn, reworking your front garden, or finally creating the garden you've always wanted, now is the time to start planning.
Garden design happens before planting season.
Tell us about your space and we'll be in touch as we begin selecting the first 6 projects.
First 6 Spring 2027 gardens include 90 days of Joan.
